Philosophy of the Wines

Estate Wines

The estate wines are fresh and designed for everyday enjoyment. Made from various vineyards

and different soils, we create well-balanced, wonderfully fresh wines that transcend vintages.

The harvest is done either mechanically or by hand, depending on the needs. Through

controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wines retain their fruity character.

Single Vineyard Wines

Cult wines with strong expression. These elegant, mineral wines come from individual sites and

steep slopes. They are known for their aging potential, which is why they are often bottled only

after long aging on the fine lees. To enhance quality, we reduce the yield and selectively harvest

by hand. The natural wine production takes place without added yeasts in wooden barrels.

Complexity with fine elegance on the palate.

Signature Wines

These wines carry their own, unmistakable signature. They are wines that reach their full

potential through the creative vision of winemaker Theo Gehring. Their creation is truly a joyful

story, told on the uniquely designed labels. From fresh to lively, from fun to contemplative, they

offer something for every taste and occasion. Interested in exciting stories?

Gehring Cooperage

Coming from the Swabian Alb, Hans and Maria Gehring founded their cooperage in Nierstein,

where Hans built his first wooden barrels. Due to the economic change and the production of

industrially manufactured plastic barrels, it was no longer possible for Hans and Maria to

maintain the cooperage. In 1959, they, together with their son Willi and his wife Anna, decided to

found the Gehring Winery and turn their hobby, viticulture, into their profession.

Fortunately, many barrels could be preserved: Although not all of them are still intact and

suitable for winemaking, they tell our family history.

Back to tradition – Since 2022, a new, traditional "piece barrel" has once again found its place in

our cellar. Gina chose a "half-barrel" from the cooperage Aßmann in Franconia, which now

stands next to the most important barrels in the cellar.

In 2024, the collection will expand with another "half-barrel" for the 30th of Theo’s company anniversary.
